Second International Seminar – Project ProSiMo II

On Tuesday, September 24th, the second seminar of the ProSiMo Project will take place. The event can be attended in person at the GREAL laboratory, located on the -1 floor of the European University of Rome, or remotely via a dedicated link.

The second seminar of Project ProSiMo II presents the final results of the international collaboration “Tools for Researching and Documenting Historical Landscape: Historical Text Mining, Remote Sensing, HGIS and Virtualization”, as a starting point for reflecting on the beginning of the new ProSiMo II and ProSiMo-APP initiatives. This international encounter will provide an overview of the progress made by the research and work teams, including reports on documental study and fieldwork, considering also broader applications to geo-historical research. The seminar aims to bridge conclusions from past experiences to the future perspectives of the new projects.

The collaboration between the Geographic Research and Application Laboratory (GREAL) of the European University of Rome and the Laboratorio de Experimentación Espacial (LabE2-HUM155) of the Universidad de Jaén was established with the goal of applying innovative tools to research in the fields of geography, history, and archaeology. This collaboration is part of two national Spanish research projects, ProSiMo and ProSiMoApp, which aim to enhance geo-historical and archaeological knowledge of the foundation of the New Settlements of Sierra Morena from 1767 onwards. Through the use of advanced techniques such as historical text mining and virtualization, the two centers are working together to develop innovative methodologies for documenting and analyzing historical landscapes.

The seminar will be attended by Prof. Gianluca Casagrande, scientific director of GREAL and professor of Geography at our university, and Dr. Roberta Rodelli, PhD candidate at the university and a member of GREAL. Prof. José Miguel Delgado Barrado from the Universidad de Jaén, director of the Laboratorio de Experimentación Espacial (LabE2), will also be present, along with several other scholars from the scientific committee, including Prof. Renato Sansa from the University of Calabria and Prof. Paolo Militello from the University of Catania.
