
GREAL Laboratory
GREAL – Geographic Research and Application Laboratory is the geographic laboratory of the European University of Rome, specialised in spatial analysis, thematic cartography, remote sensing, and geotechnologies applied to cultural heritage, the environment, and society.
Founded in 2009 with the goal of bridging academic research and field applications, GREAL operates within the Department of Human Sciences. Through an Operational Committee composed of internal and external university researchers, and under the supervision of a Scientific Committee, the laboratory promotes interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with national and international institutions. GREAL integrates geotechnologies and tools such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems), 3D modeling, UAS platforms (drones), augmented and virtual reality, and advanced sensors across a range of activities.
The main activities of GREAL include:
- Design and management of territorial and cartographic surveys
- Training and education for students and professionals
- Development of national and international research projects

- Collaboration with public bodies and research institutions
- Third mission activities (knowledge transfer and public engagement)
