A Conference on “Climate Justice” at the European University of Rome

On March 13, 2024, the European University of Rome hosted a conference on the theme of “Climate Justice”, held in the university’s Aula Master and organized by the Degree Program in Law, with the participation of distinguished speakers from other institutions. The rationale behind this scientific event was summarized by the organizers as follows:

The widely discussed public demand for a collective commitment to avoiding negative impacts on climate balance—through behaviors, lifestyles, and methods of production and service delivery—finds its legal counterpart in the concept of climate justice and, more broadly, in the emerging legal implications of climate-related challenges. These issues concern both the development of legal frameworks and the judicial recognition of climate-related damages.

Discussing these topics naturally leads to dialogue on the need for intergenerational justice, aimed at protecting future generations who may one day be burdened by the consequences of actions and decisions taken today.

GREAL was represented at the event by Dr. Luigi Iafrate, a geographer and expert in climate history affiliated with the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA).
