GREAL took part in a scientific workshop hosted by the University of Jaén, Spain, from May 6 to 9, 2024. The initiative was held within the framework of the collaboration entitled “Tools for researching and documenting historical landscape: historical text mining, remote sensing, HGIS and virtualization”, established between LabE2 at the University of Jaén and GREAL.
The European University of Rome’s laboratory was represented by Prof. Gianluca Casagrande and Dr. Roberta Rodelli.
The joint activities began with a scientific field excursion in the mountainous area of the Sierra Morena, where researchers from Jaén, led by Prof. José Miguel Delgado Barrado and Prof. Antonio Jesús Ortíz Villarejo, presented several historical sites in remote locations and the ongoing investigations conducted there since 2020.
On the second day, May 8, an international workshop was held at the University of Jaén, bringing together scholars from all institutions involved in the Proyecto de Sierra Morena, which is currently nearing completion.
The meeting also marked the official launch of a new joint mini-research project between LabE2 and GREAL, which will continue over the coming months and culminate in a second workshop to be hosted at the European University of Rome in the first half of September 2024.
