From October 1st to 3rd, 2025, GREAL worked at the private Albertini Family Archive in Milan to complete an important phase of the research project dedicated to the Arctic exploration of the vessel Heimen Sucai (1929).
During the work sessions, the complete transcription of the expedition’s logbook was finalized, thanks also to the valuable collaboration with the family of Commander Gianni Albertini — Giovanna, his daughter, and Cecilia Risso, his granddaughter — who contributed by providing information and insights drawn from other archival materials.
At the same time, the original pages of the logbook and other significant documents were digitized in high definition and geometrically rectified, including several versions of the typescript of the volume La Heimen Sucai nei Mari Artici, published by Albertini in 1932 and dedicated to the expedition itself.
This activity marks an important step in the ongoing work of preserving, enhancing, and providing digital access to historical sources related to Arctic explorations, in line with GREAL’s mission to promote geographical and historical research through the most advanced digital technologies.
